About this IMS Online Retreat

Friday, November 13, 2026 - Sunday, November 15, 2026

In our Dharma practice we do a lot of letting go. The forces of wanting, not wanting and delusion are seen clearly and then, through wisdom, let go of. This is the path of purification.

For everything we let go of though, we need to know what we are affirming in its place. Otherwise our practice becomes nihilistic and not sustainable. Connecting with things like loving kindness and compassion, sympathetic awareness, calm and ethical conduct help to feed and endow the heart. These are beautiful states of the heart that we can nurture. They give us something wholesome and lovely to turn towards, even as we are turning away from what is unwholesome.

During this weekend retreat we will be mindful of unwholesome states of heart that arise, let them go, and then consciously turn our attention to what is beautiful in our experience.

Meet Your Teacher

Chas DiCapua

Chas DiCapua has been practicing Buddhist meditation for over 30 years with Burmese meditation masters, western monastics of the Thai Forest tradition and senior western vipassana teachers. He has spent over two years in silent, intensive retreat. Chas has served as IMS’s Resident Teacher at IMS since 2003. Chas is a graduate of the four year joint Insight Meditation Society / Spirit Rock Teacher Training Program. He teaches retreats at IMS and at various centers and sanghas throughout the country. As a way to address the wide spread suffering that is endemic in many partnered relationships, Chas explores how the dharma can be practiced in relationship.
