In the Buddha's Words: Series I
On-Demand
Participate in all six suttas or choose the ones that interest you most.
The suttas found in the Pali Canon are narratives about and discourses given by the Buddha during his 45 years of teaching. From his first sermon, narrated in “The Setting in Motion of the Wheel of the Dhamma Sutta,” to his last teaching during the narrative account of his death before he entered final Nirvana, we will focus on the practical application of some of the Buddha’s most important lessons to our modern practice and daily lives.
In Series I, IMS Online teachers will explore the truths that the Buddha discovered during his own awakening experience about suffering and the cessation of suffering. We will explore the ways our bodies and minds trap us in suffering, and how we can be free from those traps. We follow the Buddha’s own step-by-step instructions on how to practice with the breath and strengthen our capacity for mindfulness. And we will read about and practice with the Buddha’s clear directions on how we can follow the path to liberation while living a lay life.
This program is open to beginning and seasoned meditators alike. All are welcome. This program will include dharma teachings, meditation instructions, and opportunities for Q&R.
